This interior painting project in East Marion, just north of Greenport in the Town of Southold, was approached with the level of care and discipline expected in high-end North Fork homes. Spanning the basement, first floor, second floor, and a prominent fireplace feature, the project was executed as a complete, cohesive transformation. Rather than simply applying paint, each stage was handled methodically, from protection and preparation through final finishing, to ensure a refined result that complements the character of the home and stands up to everyday living on the East End.

Protecting the Home & Work Areas
Homes on the North Fork often feature a mix of natural materials, custom finishes, and thoughtfully curated interiors. With that in mind, we began by fully protecting all non-painted surfaces. Floors were carefully covered, furnishings were wrapped or relocated, and all fixtures, hardware, and adjacent materials were precisely masked. In the basement and around the fireplace, additional care was taken to protect mechanicals and stonework. This stage ensures the home remains clean, undisturbed, and fully respected throughout the process.
Surface Preparation & Repairs

A high-end finish begins long before the first coat of paint. Throughout the home, from lower-level spaces to main living areas and second-floor rooms, all surfaces were carefully evaluated and corrected. This included repairing sheetrock imperfections, addressing minor settlement cracks, filling holes, and refining uneven areas. The goal was to create a consistent, stable foundation that would allow the final finish to appear smooth, intentional, and built to last.
Spackling, Caulking & Fine Detail Work
Attention to detail defines the difference between a standard paint job and a truly finished interior. All repaired areas were professionally spackled and feathered for a seamless blend into surrounding surfaces. Trim, baseboards, and moldings were carefully caulked to eliminate visible gaps and create crisp, continuous lines. These subtle refinements are what give a home that clean, elevated look often associated with well-crafted East End interiors.
Sanding & Surface Smoothing

Once repairs and detailing were complete, all surfaces were sanded to achieve a uniform, smooth finish. This step is essential not only for proper adhesion but also for how light interacts with the walls and ceilings. In bright North Fork homes, where natural light plays a major role, even minor imperfections can become visible. Careful sanding ensures a flawless substrate and a more refined final appearance.
Priming for Depth & Consistency
Strategic priming was applied where needed, particularly over repaired areas, new sheetrock, and in sections of the basement. This step ensures even absorption, prevents flashing, and allows the final color to achieve full depth and consistency. Proper priming is key to delivering the rich, uniform tones expected in high-end homes throughout East Marion and the surrounding Southold area.
Precision Painting & Finishing

With preparation complete, premium coatings were applied using professional techniques to achieve smooth, even coverage and sharp, clean lines. Each level of the home was treated with the same level of care, from functional basement spaces to highly visible first-floor living areas and second-floor bedrooms. Trim, doors, and architectural details were finished with precision, creating subtle contrast and enhancing the overall design of the home.
Fireplace Stonework
The fireplace, a natural focal point in the home, required a specialized approach. The existing stone was carefully cleaned and prepared to ensure proper adhesion while preserving its texture and character. Surrounding areas were fully protected before applying coatings suited for masonry surfaces. The result is a refined, updated centerpiece that integrates seamlessly with the home’s interior palette while maintaining its original charm, as shown in the gallery below.
Final Review & Presentation

At the conclusion of the project, every space was carefully reviewed to ensure consistency, cleanliness, and quality. Protective coverings were removed, surfaces were cleaned, and final touch-ups were completed where needed. The finished result reflects a level of craftsmanship and attention to detail aligned with the expectations of homeowners across the North Fork and East End.
